Chamber endorses Flagstaff Regional Plan

March 1, 2014

The Greater Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors gave its unanimous endorsement in favor of Flagstaff’s Regional Plan 2030, which will come before the voters in a special election this May.

The Regional Plan is the culmination of several years of work by the Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC), the city council, and various interest groups and individuals. The Greater Flagstaff Chamber spent much of 2013 heavily involved in the review and amending of the document before it came before council. Through the Chamber’s Community and Economic Development Division, spearheaded by board member Bill McCullough, the group spent numerous hours combing through the sections, making edits that were submitted to the city to help the plan better echo the aspirations of our businesses, economic development and tourism industries, and educational entities.
The final document voted on by the city council is one that Chamber leadership feel is balanced. It is a reflection of our community’s character that supports open spaces and sustainability, while also recognizing our needs to retain, expand, and attract businesses that offer competitive salaries that allow our residents to take part in the quality of life that Flagstaff offers.

A special election has been set for Tuesday, May 20, 2014 in which the Regional Plan question will be the only item on the ballot. This is an opportunity for you, the voter, to choose whether or not our city formally adopts this document. If you would like to review the plan for yourself, you can view the document at

The Regional Plan is a compromise. Through the various inputs of the city council, the CAC, groups, and individuals, a common ground was met that bridges the gaps between competing interests and embraces a forward looking vision for our city. While not perfect, and few government documents are, the Greater Flagstaff Chamber believes that the plan before you will be a quality guide for the future growth and sustainability of our great city.

We encourage you, the voter, to give the Regional Plan a supporting vote on May 20. For more information on voter registration deadlines, please go to
